IOTA SWL 2007 Contest -Results

The results for the IOTA SWL 2007 Contest have been published on the MDXC/SWL Page .

Last year i participated in the SSB 24-HOUR category , and scored at the 4th place for this category .
Hopefully , i hope to get more time on this year's contest , still , it was fun to take part in a contest , after almost 10 years i did not contested .

IOTA Contest 2007 -My Summary

Here is a short summary for the IOTA Contest 2007 / SSB , 24 hrs category :
Here the WX was vy bad , we had about 40 degrees and humidity about 75% so the conditions were vy vy poor here , i was listening about more then 16 hrs , and for nothing....hi...well , at least i practiced for my next contest of RDA On the next month wich will be a big event.... I logged about 249 QSO's in total ( i stopped 1 hr before the end of the IOTA contest , i had no power anymore...hi ), 80 Of them were for the contest... the other were on Cw and some new ones that unfortunately i did not
heard completely their sent RST...
YW1DX is the best logging here and that's why i should thank this contest ! new one for me IOTA SA-089 NEW IOTA !
The 4X7AZ , IOTA AS-100 Guys were logged as well.... and few 9M6's....nothing else special....only 20 IOTA's this year , most of them in Europe , few in Asia and one African... i hope in the next year propagations will be better....
anyway , it was an interesting experience and i tested my patience .
My last Contests participate were in 1998 , when i was very young...hi
Holyland Dx Contest -1st place Israel -Cup .
SPDX Contest -3rd place WW -Certificate .
and few other like PACC etc. around the 10th place WW.
aaaaaah...... due the VERY hot WX here , the Collins 51S1's tubes were heat and i need to cool it very often ! 1 hr before the end of the Contest , the Collins was shut down , probably the tubes have been heat and one of them was out...now i need to repair it ...errrr
I still got my R5000 and ICOM ..... hi
Ok , i am already waiting for the RDA Contest on 18 August , another good opportunity to
increase my RDA Districts score.... also it will be the Lighthouse Event day !

Scotish Islands Dxpedition by GM3VLB

IOTA EU-123 , Eilean HOAN (SCOTIA DI30) Friday 27th evening to Sunday 29th morning (during this period , one problem for my QRP station will be the 24-hour IOTA contest - I'll be struggling to stay around 14257.5 , swamped by the
multi-kilowatt guys !! ).
IOTA EU-123 , RABBIT Island (SCOTIA DI31) Sunday 29th or Monday 30th until ????...at this stage it becomes very WX-dependent , this area (especially the Pentland Firth) being one of the most treacherous sea areas in the world...
IOTA EU-123 , Eilean nan RON (SCOTIA DI32)... not before Monday 30th and until ????...
IOTA EU-005 , NEAVE Island (SCOTIA DI33)... not before Tuesday 31st and until
???? For these last 3 islands (DI31 , 32 and 33) I will have the same boatman ,
and "transfer" from one island to the next , will depend on the sea-state...There
are no jetties or sheltered anchorages.....
IOTA EU-123 , STROMA Island (SCOTIA DI34)...not before Wednesday 1st August ,
and I really suspect quite a bit later....the tidal currents here are very
treacherous...this is where it pays to have a good boatman (in this case , one
who has spent his life making this crossing....) .
As with my recent 5-island trip to the southern Outer Hebrides , and in view of
the distances involved from the home QTH , I am determined to make every
reasonable effort to activate all 5 islands , but there can be no guarantees .

Zmeiny Island , IOTA EU-182

Anatoly /UT3IB , Mike /UT9IO and Alex /UX2IQ , will operate as homecall/p from Zmeiny Island , Odes'ka Obl Black Sea Coast Islands group IOTA EU-182 , UIA-07 , on 24-30 July . They will participate in the IOTA Contest as UX2IQ/P .

before and after the contest they will operate CW and SSB on the WARC Bands .

Great Bernera ,Outer Hebrides Group IOTA EU-010

Dennis , M0LSB will be QRV July 27-29th as MM0LSB/p from Great Bernera Island , Outer Hebrides Islands Group , IOTA EU-010 , IOSA OH-12 , SCOTIA HI-27 . Activity will be on 80-10 metre SSB , using low power , IOTA contest included .

From 23 to 30 July , a group of Russians will be active from Kotlin Island IOTA EU-133 , signing as RI1CA during the IOTA contest (28-29 July 2007 ).
Before the IOTA Contest , the team will be signing as RK1B/P .

IOTA SWL 2007 Contest

The Mediterraneo DX Club , SWL Section , is proud to invite all SWLs to the IOTA SWL Contest . The SWL Section , discontinued in 2005 , has been recovered by the MDXC/SWL in cooperation with the RSGB HFCC and will take place in parallel to the IOTA Contest , from 12 UTC on 28 July to 12 UTC on 29 July 2007 .
The SWL GEOFF WATTS Plaque , to honour the founder of the IOTA Programme , and several certificates are presented by the MDXC .

The aim of the IOTA SWL Contest , held in parallel with the IOTA Contest , is to promote the interest of the SWL stations for the Contests and to encourage the SWL applications to the awards of the IOTA Programme .
Remember that the IOTA Programme was established back in 1964 by the late Geoff Watts , BRS-3129 , the only SWL ever inducted in the CQ DX Hall of Fame .

Akhziv Islands , IOTA AS-100

The Holyland DX Group , Mark /4Z4KX , Ros /4Z5LA , Yuli /4X6HP , Reuven /4Z5FI and Jan /4X1VF , will be active as 4X7AZ from Akhziv Island ,IOTA AS-100 , MIA MIR-001 , between 0700 UTC July 28th and 1200 UTC July 29th . Activity will be on 80-10 metres using CW and SSB . They will run two stations on the air . 4X7AZ will participate in the IOTA Contest as well !
